外貨預金の罠
新生銀行とシティバンク銀行が、外貨預金の広告に問題があると公正取引委員会から警告を受けたとの報道。
問題となっている広告は新生銀行のサイトではここにある。
警告を受けているのだから、修正される可能性もあり、ここに広告内容を再現しておく。
「５００万円を金利年５％のニュージーランドドルの外貨預金に預けておくと、利息として年間約194,000円のおこづかいがもらえる」としているのが、問題とされている箇所。
まず、19万4千円の根拠だが、以下の算式により計算されたものである。
5百万円 × 5％ × 80％ ＝ 20万円
最後の80％をかけているのは、利息に対する源泉税を差し引くためである。
まず、最初に指摘しておかねばならないのは、この20万円近くの利息を受け取れるのは、為替水準が預入時と満期時で同一であるとの前提のもとでなければ実現しない。この前提自体HP上にははっきり書いてはいないのだが、このこと自体が問題として警告を受けたのではない。
ここで、めざとい方は私の算式だと20万円なのに、広告では19万円4千円になっており、この差に目がいくであろう。これは、新生銀行がとる為替手数料のせいだ。我々が銀行で外貨を買う場合には手数料をとられるし、外貨を売って円に戻すときも手数料をとられる。この20万円の利息を外貨預金から受け取るときも往復の手数料がとられ、その結果6千円目減りしているのである。
随分、細かい点まで考慮に入れて親切な広告である気もするが、問題なのは、元本部分の為替手数料が非常にわかりづらい細かい文字でしか書かれていないことだ。大きな文字で「年間19万4千円のおこづかい」と書かれた下に、小さい字で以下のような記述がある。
（満期日に預入日と同じTTBレートで円転した場合の元本は約485万円となります。)
この文章自体もわかりにくいが、要は為替相場がかわらなければ、元本部分は15万円の往復の手数料をとられて485万円になりますよ、とのことだ。つまり、為替相場に変化がなければ、おこづかいの19万4千円から15万円を差し引かれて、本当のおこづかいは4万4千円になってしまうのだ。これは確かによくない広告だろう。本来ならば年間のおこづかいは4万4千円と書くべきであろう。
年間のおこづかいを4万4千円とした場合、利回りを計算すると、なんとわずか0.88%となってしまう。
おそらく、この外貨預金を購入した人の多くは、5％という表面的な利率の高さに惹かれて購入したのだろうが、よほど為替相場が円安にふれない限り、5％という利回りは得られない。
外貨預金に限らず、投信や最近人気の変額年金保険なども、なにかと手数料をとられるが、やはりそれらの手数料の記述もわかりにくい。難しい金融商品を購入するときは、細かい説明文もよく読む必要があるということを肝に銘じていただきたい。
